Alaska salmon:
- King salmon, or chinook salmon, are the largest of the Alaska
salmon, typically 25-50 lbs. The world
record king salmon caught on the Kenai River was 97 lbs. 4
oz.
- Red salmon, or sockeye salmon, are typically 5-10 lbs, but can be
as large as 15 lbs.
- Silver salmon, or coho salmon, are typically 6-12 lbs., growing
as large as 18 lbs.
- Dog salmon, or chum salmon, are typically 8-15 lbs., but can be
as large as 20 lbs.
- Pink salmon, or humpies, are the smallest of the Alaska salmon,
typically ranging from 4-8 lbs., but growing as large as 12 lbs.
All of these species can be found on the Kenai Peninsula - many of the
current world record salmon were caught
here.
